Hoist Assets vs AFSA direct.

Honest comparison. Both products have customers who'd be wrong to switch.

Last updated 2026-05-15Researched independently
TL;DR. AFSA direct is the right answer for one-off manual searches. It is cheaper, immediate, and produces the official AFSA certificate. Hoist is for AI agent, API, and CLI workflows that need source-backed Evidence Packs at repeatable scale. If you only need one manual search, go direct. If your workflow needs to check the source, explain the result, and keep evidence, that is where Hoist is built. Hoist is built for API and MCP workflows (sample data only); live checks and paid plans are handled through API access. See /trust/afsa-b2g/.
When AFSA direct is the right call

AFSA direct search costs A$2. You log into the portal, run the search, and download the AFSA certificate. It is the official source artefact and it is free of any Hoist dependency. If you are doing one or two searches a year and do not need an agent workflow, API, or Evidence Pack, AFSA direct is genuinely the right answer. We are not trying to win that job.

When to pick AFSA direct

  • You only need one manual search and do not need repeatable evidence.
  • You are comfortable logging into the AFSA portal each time.
  • You do not need an API, MCP server, or AI agent workflow.
  • You want the official AFSA certificate with no intermediary markup.

When to pick Hoist Assets

  • Your AI tool of choice needs to check the source, read the result, and return an Evidence Pack to you.
  • You want repeatable, timestamped evidence that can attach to a deal file or CRM record.
  • You want an API, MCP server, or CLI so your workflow does not require a human browser session.
  • You can wait for paid searches, or you want to request API access now.

FAQ

01Should I just use AFSA direct?

Yes, if you only need one manual search. AFSA direct costs A$2, produces the official AFSA certificate, and requires no integration at all. Hoist is for when your AI tool, API client, or CLI workflow needs to run the search and get back an Evidence Pack. If that scenario does not apply to you, AFSA direct is the right answer and we are not trying to talk you out of it.

02Why would I pay you A$0.50 on top of the A$2 AFSA base cost?

The planned Hoist total is A$2 AFSA base plus A$0.50 workflow fee (planned values, not billed today). You pay the extra A$0.50 for the Evidence Pack format, the API or MCP endpoint your agent calls, the audit chain, and the Due Diligence Record PDF. If those do not matter to you, AFSA direct is genuinely the right answer. Note that paid Hoist searches are not generally available; access is controlled.
