A register search is the broad category covering any inquiry made of an official register operated by a government body. In Australian commercial due diligence, the registers most commonly hit are:
- PPSR (AFSA) - security interests in personal property.
- ABR (ATO) - ABN, GST, registered business names, and historical trading names.
- ASIC - company extracts, officer searches.
- Land titles (state-by-state) - real-property ownership.
- Court files - litigation history.
