Disambiguation: "NPII" appears with two unrelated meanings in Australian register/insolvency contexts:
- AFSA's NPII - the National Personal Insolvency Index, a publicly available record of personal insolvency proceedings (bankruptcy, debt agreements, personal insolvency agreements) maintained by AFSA under the Bankruptcy Act 1966 (Cth). It contains full name, aliases, date of birth, residential address, and proceeding type. This is a separate AFSA register from the PPSR and is not a current Hoist search source.
- Hoist's old "NPII" shorthand - historical internal Hoist terminology for non-personally-identifying PPSR searches (organisation-grantor + serial-number). Renamed to "org-only" on 2026-05-16 (Bead
ha-ju8) to avoid the collision above.
What Hoist actually does
Hoist documents only an org-only future PPSR contract: organisation subjects by ACN and serial-number subjects such as VIN, chassis, or aircraft serial. Preview and paid search are currently unavailable and fail closed; no PPSR searches are exposed to customers at any layer. Hoist does not use AFSA's NPII bankruptcy-register carve-out for PPSR.
The current AFSA access status is published at /trust/afsa-b2g. Credentials, OAuth scopes, an account, or a plan do not unlock Hoist PPSR calls.
What's within the future org-only contract
- Organisation searches by ACN
- Serial-number searches (VIN, chassis number, aircraft serial)
- Registration retrieval by registration number (if you already have one)
What's not permitted
- Individual-grantor searches
- Bulk extracts of the register
- Downstream resale of search data as a data product
How Hoist enforces this
Our API rejects individual-grantor inputs at the boundary with a 400 response. There's no search_individual, no lookup_by_licence. See /trust/npii-boundary for the full enforcement story.
Related terms

How Hoist uses this
Hoist uses this page to keep the acronym collision clear: NPII is AFSA's bankruptcy index; Hoist's future PPSR contract is org-only and currently unavailable. See /trust for current standing.
